First Frenchman and first Western European in space (1982). First non-American, non-Soviet to perform an EVA. Flew on Soviet and US spacecraft across 15 years.
Before NASAFrench Air Force fighter pilot and chief test pilot who graduated from the École de l'Air in 1961 before being assigned to CNES in 1980.
