First person to fly in space four times. Commanded Apollo 13's legendary safe return after catastrophic failure. Part of the first crew to orbit the Moon on Apollo 8.
Before NASAU.S. Navy test pilot and naval aviator who graduated from the Naval Test Pilot School at Patuxent River and served as a flight instructor before joining NASA in 1962.
